A Rare and Unusual FORD COE

My good friend JERRY over at HANK'S TRUCK FORUM has come up with another stumper. It is this FORD TWIN ENGINE COE.

If you look closely at the grill, you will notice two radiators. Why? This truck had two engines, that's why. Apparently FORD built this truck for military use. It had a 70 foot trailer used for hauling aircraft parts.

What is not known are the specifications, how many were built, what engines were used, what year was this manufactured in? As far as I can find, this picture found by Jerry is the only one on the net. It might have been taken at an ATHS show.

Any further info about this truck would be appreciated -- it certainly deserves more recognition!!

Please note:

THIS PICTURE WAS FOUND ON HANK'S TRUCK FORUM -- AT THE TIME OF THIS POST IT WAS THE ONLY PICTURE I COULD FIND ON LINE OF THIS TYPE OF TRUCK. MY SINCERE THANKS TO GARY MORTON FOR TAKING THIS GREAT PICTURE AND ALLOWING ITS' USE HERE!!

  1. my name is mike, right now I am working on a twin engine truck for pacor. This truck will use the running gear of a peterbuilt 379, 2 L 76 engines with two auto trans (1 for each engine) 2 obd III units. The power will be transmitted to a 2 to 1 power reduction giving the truck 1000 hp and 2000 ft pounds of tq. with 70% lower nox foot print all on gas. This will defeat the diesl idle laws. And the fuel is cheaper than diesl. trike09@sbcglobal.net

  2. Hi, I know a lot about these Trucks. They were Built by
Ford and had 2 Flathead Ford V/8's, mounted beside each other. They Pulled a Very Long Trailer to carry 2
B-24 Wings from the Ford Plant in Willow Springs, Mi.
Ford built on average 1 B-24 Per Hour on a 24 hour work
Day. They shipped the Wings to the Consalidated Aircraft
Company located at Fort Worth, Texas. Which became
Carswell AirForce Base. They later Build B-36 Bombers.
I met the loading Dock supervisor, who was in his 80's,
In my home town of Sulphur Springs, Tx. The was a COE, located in Amarillo, Tx. About 10 years ago. It was
All there with the Stock Twin Ford Flathead engines. FYI,
P-51 Mustangs were Built at the Dallas Naval Air Station
    During the WWII. Regards DerealdLMillsap@gmail.com

  3. Twin flatheads! That would be something to see, I ran flatheads from 1967 to 1997. They were/are great little engines!

  4. I'm from Cheney, WA, just outside Spokane. Great info here-I am also very interested in old FWD (Corporation) trucks as my dad ran 3 of them for plowing snow over the years in north central Idaho--they were great snowplow trucks! Also have always been interested in Ford bigger dump trucks, etc. Thanks for all your work here!
